Mary was born about 1851 in Marsh Chappell, Lincoln. From the birth places of their children, it appears they were in Mile End in 1875, at Greenwich, Kent about 1879-79, then at Lambeth around 1881-82, Bermondsey in 1886 and back in Brentwood by 1888.
In 1901, she is a living at Crown Street, Brentwood, aged 50 and born in Marshchapel, Lincolnshire. Her husband, Ernest, and three children, Walter, Susie and Ethel are still living at this address.
In 1911, a widow living at 14 North Road Avenue Brentwood Essex with daughter Ethel

Mary married Ernest Cumbers, son of William Cumbers and Mary Ann King. (Ernest Cumbers was born about 1845 in Hornchurch and died Sep qtr 1904 in Billericay district.)
