General Notes:
In 1861, aged 2, living at Kelvedon Farm In 1871, he is living with parents at Wellesley Road, Brentwood., aged 12 In 1881, he is living at the Three Horse Shoes, Brentwood with his Mother Elizabeth. The 1891 census states Kelvedon, but I am presuming this should read Kelvedon Common. Richard is a railway labourer. With them in the 1891 census is an 11 year old Elizabeth Cumbers. She is a visitor, born in South Weald In 1901, Richard is living in Cromwell Road, South Weald with his wife, mother, children and nephew Thomas Cumbers. Richard is a Clatchlayer (Railway). Not quite sure what this means. In 1911 at 53 Cromwell Road South Weald; a platelayer aged 52. Only 3 of 5 children have survic=ved to 1911.
Richard married Jane Cross, daughter of Emmanuell Cross and Susan Whitby, on 19 Jun 1880 in Brentwood. (Jane Cross was born in 1860 in Great Warley and died in 1932 in Billericay district.)
