This is Samford Hundred in Suffolk.

Suffolk Pubs History

The Samford hundred, like many other areas in Suffolk, is a region incorporating many very small villages and medium sized towns. I am interested from the view point of Raydon, only - but actually this is wrong. When you realise that two villages (e.g. Raydon and Shelley) are probably about a mile apart, it starts you wondering whether they ought to be classified as the same place.

Today, a mile is at the end of our road!                   A map in 1836

Every Essex Public House & All the London Pubs too

Here is a start to Samford. Quoting from the Whites 1844 Directory. And links are to the 1841 census.

I get thousands of emails every day, fortunately most 'spam mails' are deleted by my mail scan settings. The final several hundred emails are to various email addresses, and replying to these are not always successful. If you do not hear from me in a timely fashion, please feel free to email again, I do not mind! This is a pure PUBS history site, I doubt if I know where the PUBS are NOW, but try the site for where they were a hundred years ago, again enjoy!
