This is the Lagden Family History from Census data in
Essex.
Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk genealogy, census, marriages &
other stuff. SUPPORT World Vision .
This is an effort to put the Lagden family on the map in
genealogy circles. This is in the first instance quite a crude attempt
at grabbing all the data that is available, listing it in a crude form
of tables and lists, and then attempting to put all the pieces together
like a big jigsaw.
My own family, the Wildings are a little
difficult to trace, then I found a lot of data from my grandmothers
side, linking to the Littlechilds in Kelvedon Hatch and back to
Doddinghurst. This is being documented very crudely too. In 1819,
John Littlechild married a Sarah Lagden,
and there we have it. Incidentally, the Lagdens and Littlechilds appear
to have been farming alongside each other for some time, with obvious
links at Overhall in Ashdon, plus many other places I am sure, and both
families seem to spread around the county (in particular around
Brentwood and Ongar) for a large part of their history.
There are lots of Lagden and Littlechild marriages to
add, these will go in the Essex marriages database soon
Essex Marriage
data for Essex - Searchable through a php link to a mysql database.
You may also like to check out the many Lagden that have
arisen in the 1841 census, much of this has gone online and can be
searched through this Search
Engiine
Just to tidy things up - here are the Lagden / Totman
links - Lagden &
Totman Links
Have you checked out the SEAX info that is available - I
have! Some is for viewing at :
Lagden - SEAX
I am putting detail to the Wills and other detail in the
SEAX document - like this data from the ERO today
(13/9/2003)
Here is a
Lagdens in Stebbing /
Thaxted update
and here is a brand new story :
We have this family
in Stebbing 1841: the Lagdens in Stebbing / Thaxted & Other places
Plus, a really weak page on the Lagden - Totman links
Lagden
& Totman Links - I have been getting quite excited all evening to do
this page, but sadly there is not much info that I have. Time to update
with some Boyds Marriages in my database (You know this web site is
completely live, and Uncut).

23/11/1795 Wm Lagden m Sarah Perry, both
single, of this parish
I am sure there is a link between Stebbing
and Thaxted, but the wills I have produce conflicting info about
whether there is more than one Wm Lagden,Stebbing , Labourer in the
same era, which I am sure there probably is.
News from the 1841 Census:
I already have all / most Doddinghurst and Kelvedon
Hatch covered - plus lots more too - see the Search Engine link, but
these are new details found: Actually, I have lots more too, but write
faster than I can type!
Stebbing 1841 (coming very soon)
We not only have a couple of Lagdon families but a
confirmed Charlotte Lagden who married a Daniel Bambridge in 1827, they

4 - Emma LAGDEN b./ch. 07 Mar 1799 Little Abington
Note: Frances and Emma have consecutive records in the christenings
transcripts; for Frances the record notes born 07 May 1799 for Emma it
notes born 07 Mar 1799 - I've assumed they were both christened in the
same day and some confusion arose as to the dates of birth - they are
probably not twins.
------
That is not me saying I.
I have not yet recorded the christenings of the children of John Twinn
LAGDEN (b) & Mary WRIGHT but I have them on microfilm.
Most of the above is partly conjectural, as anything that did not take
place in Little Abington was not yet verified on records. However, since
LAGDEN is a relatively uncommon name it appears that there is a good
chance of the above being correct. I am trying to find ways to obtain
copies of records from places in Essex named above. I would prefer to
have my own copies of the records than to look at LDS microfilm. Also
looking for ways to get marriage records from Saint Martin in the Fields
[Westminster, (Middlesex), London] as I suspect Henry LAGDEN (h) and
Elizabeth got married there but I have a date that doesn't fit.

families were extremely prevalent in the list of deaths, a few years
after this they had left the area almost completely and possibly bad
luck behind them ?
