The Kenya 2005 project & GiftAid

make poverty history

In July 2005, twenty four youth from the parish Of Hornchurch are visiting  Kenya. They are members of Hornchuch Guides, Hornchurch Gladiator Explorer Scouts and also a Christian Youth group calling itself Saltire.

Their aim is in helping young Kenyans who have lost their families, often through AIDS. These street children's centres give them a chance in life that they would never otherwise have. They will be working with Kenyans to this aim.

At St Stephens Childrens centres, at Embu, there is the building of two rooms to complete a training suite. St Stephens is a residential centre for young people who are unable to be cared for by their families.

At Utugi Street Childrens's centre, a new building to add to the facilities there. The Utugi  project in Wanguru is new, the first buildings will be put up in the second half of 2004, and there is much needed to be done to complete it.

Many of the children at these centres have lost family, often through AIDS.

A massive thank you to all those who have supported this charity through charitable donations. Every penny has reached the charitable cause.

You may be interested to know that, where we were funding a project, the initial estimates of £7000 have been upgraded to us being able to fund the entire project, i.e. an extra £3000.

This is brilliant, thank you to all who have supported us. The trip is due to leave England in less than a week, i.e. the 22nd July, 2005. It will make such a difference to a continent where half the population live on less than a $ a day - ludicrous.

Incidentally, if you have not heard from me for a while, you will. I do not forget human kindness.
